Exploring Handmade ~ Holiday Shopping Event ~ Day 9

Hello and Welcome to Day 9 of the
Exploring Handmade Online Holiday Shopping Event!!

Happy Thanksgiving!!

Here in the USA, it's Thanksgiving and I decided that it wasn't fair to feature artisans on a major holiday. But, I do have something special for you. Thanksgiving is about giving thanks and one of the things I'm thankful for is the gift I've been given to design and create jewelry that is meaningful, special and makes a difference in people's lives.

One of the things I'm most proud of is my Jewelry for Charity Program which I started as soon as I got my website up and running. You can read all about it on the Jewelry for Charity Program page. In a nutshell, each month I design a one of a kind piece or set of jewelry and donate 50% of the proceeds from the sale to the designated charity. Sometimes the charity is chosen by me, and sometimes it's a recommendation from a customer.

These pieces are one-of-a-kind collectible-quality pieces made using the finest materials. They are full of all kinds of intricate details, usually incorporating colors and design elements that hold significance to the charity I've selected to receive the donation from its sale.

These would make wonderful gifts with the potential for a great deal of sentimental value, especially if the charity is near and dear to the heart of the recipient. They are all OOAK so there will never be another one made. And money is donated to charity with each purchase which makes them extra special... they make a difference in some way for someone who needs it.

I'm going to show you pieces that are available. I'll tell you the name of the piece and the charity it's raising money for and give you the link to it's page on the website so you can read more about the jewelry and the story behind it if you're interested or even purchase a piece for yourself or a loved one.

♥ Thanks for stopping by today ♥

Exploring Handmade ~ Holiday Shopping Event ~ Day 8

Hello and Welcome to Day 8 of the
Exploring Handmade Online Holiday Shopping Event!!

First let me reintroduce Sarah King of Windscry Designs...
You may remember seeing her crochet work on Day 2. She makes jewelry also.
I am a retired Special Agent that worked for the US Army as a civilian doing computer forensics. I worked abroad in Europe, as well as in combat zones. While I was in Kosovo in 2003 I got arsenic poisoning (we're not sure exactly how) and I spent 40 + days in military hospitals while they tried to figure out what was wrong. The Arsenic caused a rare disorder in my bladder, pain all over and my digestive system stopped completely. At the end of it, I ended up with a bum bladder and Fibromyalgia. I worked for 5 more years with these injuries and then finally in 2008 my Fibro and other problems had progressed so much that I was too ill to continue working. I couldn't even drive a car by the time I stopped because my hands hurt too much to hold the wheel!

We relocated to California from where we were living in Virginia and I began the long process of coming to terms with a total halt in a high speed career, and fought for my Social Security Disability and Worker's Compensation. I felt very much like I was living in a cocoon for about 2 years, and then in 2009, shortly after winning my fight with Social Security, I got pregnant! This was great news, since we'd been trying for a second child for about 7 years. I had my second daughter (Rowan) in July of 2010. I know some people get the baby blues but for me it was totally the opposite. I felt like I blossomed. I was back in the world and ready to do things that I'd wished I could do all of that time while I was in that demanding career track!

I began taking Jewelry classes and discovered that I had quite a knack for it, and had a great time making it. I also got serious about my crochet and have made a few really neat things, including a shawl which was included in an exhibit in Arcata, California.

I hope that you enjoy my work. My goal is to bring joy to myself and others, and to show other people with Fibromyalgia that there is a light at the end of the tunnel. There is a way to balance those meds and slow the pain down, and get some functionality in your life back! Not every day is pain free for me, but I've come a long way since 2008. Best of all, I have met a lot of new friends, some of whom have fibro too, but all of them are very suppportive and understanding.

Here are some of the places you can find Sarah and her work...

Now let's meet Valerie Hampton of Antiquarian Boutique...
Antiquarian Boutique began after attending costumed events in the SCA and conventions. I have created my dream shop in supplying quality items to accessorize those costumes or even for everyday wear.

Antiquarian Boutique was founded with the Steampunk, Medieval-Victorian, costuming, and Gothic communities in mind, but since then I have incorporated period medieval pieces for the SCA, hair accessories, and metaphysical gemstone healing necklaces.

I also have a specialty jewelry shop, DiagonAlly92, that has Harry Potter themed jewelry.

I welcome any custom requests and have completed many of them.

And we have Alexandra Ushinsky of AlexU Designs...
I'm a stay-at-home mom of two boys and I live in Montreal, Quebec. My handcrafted artisan jewellery features Artisan Lampwork beads made by talented glass artists, high quality genuine gemstones, freshwater pearls and Swarovski crystals.

All the silver components used in my jewelry are sterling silver (.925) or higher (.999) fine silver. I love to incorporate Bali and Karen Hill Tribe beads and findings.

Here are some of the places you can find Alex and her work...

And we have Lori Callahan of Dancing Wire and Beads...
I make unique, quality, fairly priced jewelry. Some techniques I use off-loom bead weaving, wire wrapping, stringing, hammering, macrame, embroidery, cold connections, and some torching. I up-cycle as much as possible, including copper and aluminum wire, old jewelry components, and shipping materials in good condition.

I also make awareness jewelry and donate a percentage to the AARDA (American Autoimmune Related Diseases Association), Avon walk for breast cancer, American Cancer Society, and NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Illness).

Here are some of the places you can find Lori and her work...

And we have Angie of Ang's Divine Designs...
I enjoy creating beautiful handmade jewelry for less.

I started making earrings several years ago when I found out that my daughter could not wear anything that was not nickel free. Any time metal is in contact with her skin, she'll break out in a rash and itch. At the time she wanted to start wearing jewelry we couldn't really find much she could wear; so I started making earrings for her with nickel free hooks.

When I started making jewelry I knew I found my creative outlet! I loved it! I started showing people I worked with what I had made and started getting requests. I have enjoyed it ever since.

Here are some of the places you can find Angie and her work...

We also have Elizabeth White of Caddo Cottage Creations...
I am the woman behind Caddo Cottage Creations.

Caddo Cottage Creations is a home-based "Cottage Industry", located in Texas.

I specialize in One-of-A-Kind, Hand-crafted, Beaded Jewelry. I've just started exploring the world of wire-wrapped jewelry making as well.

Custom orders are always welcomed.

You can find Elizabeth on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/caddocottagecreations

And last but not least, we have Debra Schwartz (aka Datz) of DatzKatz Creations...
Hi, my name is Debra and I am the person behind DatzKatz Creations. I started making jewelry about 20 months ago. I have always been somewhat artistic and making jewelry is quickly becoming a passion. In mid January of this year I decided to teach myself how to bead weave and an addiction was born.

As far as I can tell I am a "bead junkie" ...just can't get enough of these little round things with holes in them. I am always facinated by all the many things I can do with seed beads and well, all beads. I also like to make beads with polymer clay and want to expand on this in 2012.

Here are some of the places you can find Datz and her work...

So, now that you've seen all the designers over the 3 jewelry days, isn't it amazing all the different styles and products we offer? I told you you'd be impressed ;)

Tomorrow is a holiday here in the USA and I didn't think it would be fair to feature anyone on a holiday, but don't you worry... if you take the time to visit I have some special things to show you. And we'll pick up with more new artisans on Friday.

Happy Thanksgiving to you and your families!!

Exploring Handmade ~ Holiday Shopping Event ~ Day 6

Hello and Welcome to Day 6 of the
Exploring Handmade Online Holiday Shopping Event!!

Today I'm going to introduce you to a few more Jewelry Designers showing you even more of the creative range in the art of jewelry design. Enjoy!

First let's meet Jan of Jan Tanis Designs...
You saw Jan's crochet work on Day 2. Well, she's a Jewelry Designer, too!

I am a Self Representing Artist Jewelry Designer (SRAJD), Member #2972, and I LOVE Designing and Making my own HandMade Jewelry and Rosaries. As an Interior Designer, I have had the opportunity to work with Colors and Design, so when I retired from my day job, it was an easy switch to designing and creating Jewelry and Rosaries. My Jewelry is a blend of Old-Fashioned, Romantic and some even say Victorian Styles and my Rosaries would be in that same style. I've always found things to keep me busy and I like that. I've also had a desire to be creative...so why not share some of my God-given talent with others and use my developed talents in another manner. While shopping for beads to make all of my Jewelry and Rosaries, I decided I'd order extras and have them for sale in my Bead Shop, too!

I am a Textile Artist also, working in crochet. I like making my warm, snuggly and gorgeous Hats, Scarves, Fingerless Gloves, Shawls (even Prayer Shawls) and Afghans with Acrylic and Polyester yarns. I've recently added a new yarn that is an Acrylic-Polyester Blend with Mohair and Sequins.

I've also been a seamstress, for the better part of my life and while having my own Bridal Business for several years, I have sewn everything from Wedding Gowns to Window Treatments…so it only figures that there would be patterns and fabric in my Shop, as well!

Here are some of the places you can find Jan and her work...

Now let's meet Beth Rintala of Gemworks by Beth...
I am a Self-Representing Artist Jewelry Designer. SRAJD Member #3324. I personally create each beautiful 'one-of-a-kind' (OOAK) necklace or other jewelry item paying great attention to detail and color. I use only quality Gemstone Beads, Crystals, Pearls, Silver, Copper and Gold, among other high grade beads and materials. I shop for the best quality gemstones, etc. at the best prices.
*I like doing custom work...making your dream piece come true.*

Here are some of the places you can find Beth and her work...

And we have Vickie Barber-Ellis of Sunshine Jewels...
My passion for design and wearable art began at a young age and has been one of the driving forces in my life. It all started in my junior high school shop class, learning to play with fire and hot metal - learning the tools and techniques to make cool jewelry.

I started my first design business in 1982 and while time and life has changed with various jobs and careers, my creativity has been the common thread running throughout. Each jewelry piece you find on my site is a one of a kind creation. I select each element, from the type of metal, chain and gemstones often incorporating elements hand made by other artists. May you find something that brings you as much joy to wear as it brought me in creating it.

Here are some of the places you can find Vickie and her work...

And we have Linda of Bead Bracelets by Linda Gill-Jones...
I started making bead bracelets in 2009 after taking a class at a local craft store to fill some time while I was laid off from my job. I built up and inventory and decided to start up a little business using Etsy.com. Even though I work full time now, it is still a passion of mine to have my small business and be successful at it. I make handmade beaded bracelets, guitar string bracelets, and button & bead brooches. I am from Central New York State, have a wonderful husband who is very supportive and 2 adorable cats, Dallas and Casey.

Here are some of the places you can find Linda and her work...

We also have Felicia of Fish Princess Designs...
I love collecting and making sea glass jewelry. I think every woman should have a jewelry wardrobe that reflects all facets of her life. My jewelry is inspired by nature. I love the outdoors, and in my spare time I'm an avid fly fisherwoman!

And, last but not least, me ~ Debi of Designs by Debi!
I started designing jewelry in 2006 and am self-taught. It all began because I like bangle-style bracelets and wanted beaded bangles. I couldn’t find what I wanted so I decided to see if I could make them myself.

I was on a medical leave of absence from work and found that working with the beads was good therapy. In an effort to expedite my return to my job, I began working with beads and wire every day. A bead obsession quickly developed, along with a whole lot of jewelry!

My Mom loved what I was doing and began wearing my creations to work. The women she works with and patients that go to that office also liked my designs and were inquiring about them. Having learned that I would be unable to return to my career (I was a Radiologic Technologist specialized in Interventional Angiography and CAT Scan), I was delighted with the interest people were showing in my jewelry and the concept for Designs by Debi was born.

I am a Self Representing Artist Jewelry Designer (SRAJD), Member #2978. My jewelry is a mix of precious and non-precious materials including glass beads,Swarovski® Crystals and Pearls, freshwater pearls, shell, cat’s eye, gemstones and fine silver handcrafted in Bali and Thailand. In order by favorites... I design in silver, copper, gunmetal and gold.

I’m fascinated with glass, especially handmade glass. I love using glass artists’ handmade beads in my designs because it makes them unique. And I sometimes make beads using polymer clay. It allows me to produce the colors and patterns that I have in mind for particular pieces, experiment more with my creative side and offer another unique aspect to my jewelry.

I specialize in custom design work. I love to create meaningful jewelry for people and do alot of memorial jewelry.

I have a Signature Collection made with Swarovski® Crystals; anAloha Collection that allows me to celebrate my love for Hawaii, hibiscus, and creating “beachy” designs; and a Hearts Collection made with a variety of Swarovski® Crystal hearts that made its debut at Boston Fashion Week in September 2011.

My jewelry has no particular style. True to my Gemini nature, I love variety and get bored easily. I make lots of different things using many different techniques because I just follow my artistic vision...and there are endless beautiful possibilities. I make all types of jewelry and an ever-growing selection of other beaded items.

I want to be a Philanthropist. That's my ultimate goal in life. So I’m very proud of my Jewelry for Charity Program for which I design a one-of-a-kind piece or set of jewelry every month to benefit a charity selected by me or one of my customers.

I appreciate my customers and the opportunities I have to create beautiful, meaningful jewelry that will be treasured by those lucky enough to receive it. My appreciation is subtly but prominently reflected in my logo...the Designs by Debi™ rose is magenta because dark pink roses symbolize appreciation... Thank You!!

Here are some of the places you can find me and my work...

Enjoy your day and I'll see you right back here tomorrow :)
