Happy Halloween and Some OOAK Halloween Jewelry

Happy Halloween!

Ok I'm a day early, but I have something exciting for you! Last time I showed you the jewelry set I designed for the Lady Gaga Creative Call for Oddities Event. When I was designing that set, I decided to do a similar one for my Jewelry for Charity Program.

It's not exactly the same, but very close. So, for those of you who like Halloween and themed jewelry, this is for you...

I had a lot of fun designing for that challenge, even though I hate Halloween LOL. More importantly though, the reason for making this set a Jewelry for Charity set is because I want to call attention to and actively support Lady Gaga's charity, Born This Way Foundation. That's where the donation from the sale will be going :)

Bullying is out of control. BTWF is a movement for change and I think it's AWESOME! Individuality should be celebrated and we should create a world more accepting and tolerant of differences, so I commend her and her Mom, Cynthia Germanotta, for what they're creating and wish them much success.

You can read more about the charity set here. And I hope you'll visit www.BornThisWayFoundation.org and support their work.

Have a fun and safe Halloween!

The Big Reveal: Jewelry for Lady Gaga's Challenge

Ok, it's time for the big reveal!

In my last post I showed you some of the parts on my workbench for the Lady Gaga Creative Call for Oddities Halloween Event I was participating in thanks to being contacted by Black Diamond Celebrity Gifting.

Well, the jewelry is finished and has been mailed off. I've edited the images and it's time to let you see what I designed!

I put together a collage of the jewelry along with the Lady Gaga graphic that inspired me...

She asked for "Think outside the box...outside the hemisphere. Things that make me go WOW!" So... do you think I succeeded? I hope I did!

Opportunity for You
If you like Halloween and the set I designed, you're going to LOVE this... You could own a similar set!

I made a second jewelry set similar to the one for the design challenge for my October 2012 Jewelry for Charity Set. The donation from the sale will be going to Lady Gaga's charity, Born This Way Foundation!

They're not exactly the same. Each set is a one-of-a-kind, and they're the only 2 sets like this I'll ever make so, if you're interested, keep an eye on the Designs by Debi website. The charity set will be going up soon!

Exploring Handmade ~ Holiday Shopping Event ~ Day 9

Hello and Welcome to Day 9 of the
Exploring Handmade Online Holiday Shopping Event!!

Happy Thanksgiving!!

Here in the USA, it's Thanksgiving and I decided that it wasn't fair to feature artisans on a major holiday. But, I do have something special for you. Thanksgiving is about giving thanks and one of the things I'm thankful for is the gift I've been given to design and create jewelry that is meaningful, special and makes a difference in people's lives.

One of the things I'm most proud of is my Jewelry for Charity Program which I started as soon as I got my website up and running. You can read all about it on the Jewelry for Charity Program page. In a nutshell, each month I design a one of a kind piece or set of jewelry and donate 50% of the proceeds from the sale to the designated charity. Sometimes the charity is chosen by me, and sometimes it's a recommendation from a customer.

These pieces are one-of-a-kind collectible-quality pieces made using the finest materials. They are full of all kinds of intricate details, usually incorporating colors and design elements that hold significance to the charity I've selected to receive the donation from its sale.

These would make wonderful gifts with the potential for a great deal of sentimental value, especially if the charity is near and dear to the heart of the recipient. They are all OOAK so there will never be another one made. And money is donated to charity with each purchase which makes them extra special... they make a difference in some way for someone who needs it.

I'm going to show you pieces that are available. I'll tell you the name of the piece and the charity it's raising money for and give you the link to it's page on the website so you can read more about the jewelry and the story behind it if you're interested or even purchase a piece for yourself or a loved one.

♥ Thanks for stopping by today ♥

July Jewelry for Charity Set ~ Swirling Ocean Surf

Good morning!!
For those of you who love the ocean and ocean-themed jewelry, I've got something special for you today. My July Jewelry for Charity Set...

This one will have you daydreaming about the ocean with every glance. I named it Swirling Ocean Surf because that's exactly what these beautiful lampwork glass beads remind me of.

In an attempt to create the effect of ocean waves twinkling in brilliant sun, I used Swarovski Crystal bicone beads in Aquamarine AB2x and Montana AB2x and it worked beautifully. The photo doesn't begin to capture the effect.

I continued the swirling theme with these gorgeous Bali silver beads, twisted rings and elegantly scrolled and detailed toggle clasp. The sterling and Bali silver leverback-style earrings match the bracelet perfectly.

The donation from this month's piece is again going to the American Red Cross to help those still suffering the effects of Hurricane Katrina and those affected by the horrible outbreak of tornadoes and floods this year.

Hope you're enjoying your summer! Have a wonderful weekend!

June 2011 Jewelry for Charity Set "The Spirit and Strength of Who Dat Nation"

Hey ladies!

It's been a little crazy over here and I haven't been posting so let's catch up! I finally finished the June Charity Set and got it up on the website a wee bit late...the perfectionist in me had to have EXACTLY the parts I wanted so I was at the mercy of the post office...lol.

This month was exciting for me because, for the first time, someone took me up on my standing invitation to suggest a charitable cause!! My friend, Nicole from Candles 4 Cures who lives in Louisiana told me how much people down there are STILL suffering and asked if I would do something for the Katrina victims because they do still need help. Excellent idea! Since she lives down there and knows what charity helps their communities the most, I also asked her to choose the charity that the donation would go to. She selected The Brees Dream Foundation... Drew Brees's charity.

I remember the celebration, cheering, happiness and, most of all, the feelings of hope and inspiration that seemed to flow through New Orleans after the Saints won the Super Bowl. I'm a Patriots fan as you all know, but I've never been happier about another team winning than I was that day. And I truly feel that win imparted a sense of strength and revived the spirit of those who were so horribly affected by Katrina.

My goal when designing this jewelry was to try to capture that and materialize it. So of course the jewelry had to be in the black and gold of the Saints' Who Dat Nation... Here's to you New Orleans... we have not forgotten you!!

The Spirit & Strength of Who Dat Nation Bracelet and Earrings OOAK

You can read more about the jewelry set on it's web page... http://www.designs-by-debi.com/jewelry-for-charity-piece-june-2011.html. Enjoy!!

Many thanks to Nicole for the suggestion! And the invitation is still open... I do a charity Piece every month :)

May Jewelry for Charity Set to Benefit the American Red Cross to Help Tornado Victims

Well the charity jewelry for this month is finally done and up on the website! After the tornado outbreak at the end of April, I decided to change charities and make this one to benefit the American Red Cross because they're helping the tornado victims.

Of course changing charity and purpose changed everything. I decided I wanted yellow and white beads, preferably with flowers, because yellow represents hope and renewal. Of course I didn't have any. I did a shout out on facebook to my glass artist friends though and Krissy from Krissy Beads came through for me with a beautiful set of beads that were just perfect!! This is the result...
Designs by Debi Handmade Jewelry for Charity Bracelet and Earrings Set Hope for a Bright Future. The one of a kind ooak bracelet features handmade artisan lampwork glass beads, sterling silver flower beads, Swarovski citrine and white alabaster bicones, a sterling silver hook clasp and extender chain with charms. The one of a kind earrings are leverback style with matching beads, crystals and chain.

I finally finished everything and got it up on the website today and I'll tell ya it was nice to work on something cheerful after a really rough couple days!

I brought Niko to the vet first thing Monday morning and he needs surgery. Doggie moms get really upset and nervous when their babies are sick, too :(

Then it was a phonecall to my doctor for left arm pain that I feared may be a blood clot. Soon as he examined me he sent me off for a stat ultrasound and, sure enough, the basilic vein is clotted from just above my wrist all the way up my arm!! Talk about a bad day.

So I guess I'm hoping for a bright future, too...... and that's exactly what I wish for all of you  ♥xoxo♥

Calming Ocean Waves Bracelet Featured in Collection on ArtFire

Hello!
I'm so excited to have my "Calming Ocean Waves" bracelet featured in this collection on ArtFire today! Thanks to AuntiemBoutique for including me :)

Isn't it great? The colors are wonderful. I love the ocean and the photos she included in the collection are beautiful... I can hear those ocean waves. Very soothing collection I must say.

The bracelet she included is actually one of my Jewelry for Charity Bracelets. I made that one to raise money for a man in my community who was stabbed in the back for no reason by a 16 year old boy. This man who was the picture of health is now a paraplegic, confined to a wheelchair in excrutiating pain. The bracelet is still available for sale. You can find out more about it on my website:  http://www.designs-by-debi.com/jewelry-for-charity-piece-aug-2010.html.

Well, I'm off to watch a rerun of Hawaii Five-0 .....anybody watch it? I love, love, love it!! I look forward to it every Monday. The whole cast is great but seriously.... Alex O'Loughlin and Hawaii... could there be a better combination?!?! OMG!

Need I say more??
